The Port: It's happening

Events

8 December 2007 - 28 January 2008

The development site by the Lighthouse in Black Diamond Square, Port Adelaide has been transformed, with master sculptors meticulously carving 1,500 tonnes of sand into enormous, yet intricately detailed sculptures.  As you enter the exhibition, you will be delighted by the scenes of children excitedly unwrapping their presents on Christmas day.  A book that a small child is being read contains tales of creatures that died out long ago.  Or did they…?

A team of 12 creative and very talented artists from Australia and around the World worked together for nearly 2 weeks to carve the sand to ‘life’.  The result will be an exhibition of awe-inspiring and extraordinary sculptures.

Integrated with the sand sculptures is a range of activities to keep the whole family entertained.

  • Sand Sculpting Activity Passport
  • Sand Workshops
  • Tours conducted by our resident sculptor
  • Beach Zone

During school holidays and on weekends and public holidays, there will be many more activities available.  Keep an eye on this site for further updates.

Please note that this event is family oriented and child friendly, therefore it is a smoke free venue and alcohol is not permitted.  Likewise, dogs are not permitted within the exhibition (guide dogs, hearing guide dogs and guide dogs in training excepted).
